I get a little tired at this time of year of all these ‘professional motivators’ telling us that we need to set our goals higher and live our dreams. Most times when I have set myself massive goals, I have given them up after a month or so and gone back to being my old self. Far better, in my opinion, to make small changes that you can sustain.
For instance, if you are reading this and you are managing a team of people where you work. Instead of going in on your first day back in 2013, i deciding to change EVERYTHING…why not just decide to thank your team for the work they do more often. It’s a small change that will make a big difference.
If you find yourself eating a large piece of cake with your tea every afternoon, and you are unhappy about that, why not start by doing without the cake one day a week?
After all, if everyone that walked past a beggar on the street gave him or her a little small change, he or she may not be a beggar for much longer, especially if several thousand people pass him in the course of a day. I guess it’s another way of saying what my grandmother used to tell me, that if I look after the pennies, the pounds will look after themselves!
Have a great 2013 and a small change every day!
